Outward bound/Heroic Journey - This is one of my more recent conquests it was held near Leadville like most other badass things i do. This was more than the ordinary Outward bound trip it partnered up with Judy's House/Heroic journey. This made another focus for the trip and that was grief counseling. In order to participate in this program someone close to you has died and this program was set up to help people cope with it. We did big group things here and there but mainly stayed in our littler groups. Each group was set up to go to different areas around Leadville for a backpacking adventure. The group i was with went out past the 10th mountain hut and set up camp not more than 50 yards from the lake. Each day we had 2 or 3 people from our group share with us who they lost how it happened how they felt through it and how they felt afterwards. Each person lost somebody that they were very close to. I believe that to outdoor counseling was a good thing because you built up trust in those in your group. The last night we were out we did solos thats where each person takes their personal tarp and goes off to find a spot away from everybody else to set up camp for the night. This was meant to give you time to contemplate the events of the week and just spend some quality time with mother nature. The one story that really stuck out to me was from a girl who lost her brother in a random act of violence at school. This is a true testament to how life can be cut off at any time.
Youth leadership - This was a camp in Leadville for young adults it focused on team building activities and outdoor activities. We went and lived in the dorms th the CMC campus everybody got put into groups that numbers around the same. Each group had 2 counselors that were former participants in the program. The most memorable experience from that trip has to be the hike up Mount Elbert its one of the 14ers out by leadville it took almost all day to get to the summit. There was an instructor that went with the group i was in that kept motivation up by telling everybody it was only 100 more yards to where we were going when in reality it was a lot longer than that. Another thing that we did was go out to the climbing area that was just a few miles from town.
Avalaunch science - This was a class that was taught by Susy it was very educational on what to look for in the layers of snow to tell whether or not it's safe to ski/board on this class is more recommended for skiers due to the back country hut trip and the outdoor classes unless you want to snowshoe everywhere. When i went on this we went out to Gates Hut its about 7 miles from where we parked the bus. The trip was very fun we made a massive snow fort with 4 entrances all connected under the snow. We went boarding just outside the hut and built a few jumps for something to do with our time. The nights were filled with good food and playing card games. I really enjoyed this trip.
Climb for life - This is a fundraiser for ovarian cancer. Each participant is to raise at least 250 dollars to go and participate. This was a great trip we went to Utah out to some amazing climbing spots. There are quite a few people that participate in this event. They have drawings for climbing gear and provide some free hospitals such as a dinner/dance thing on the last day. When i went with the school we camped out and the free message was well deserved and felt amazing after all week sleeping outside, climbing all day, and adventuring around in the afternoon/evening. This trip is highly recommended from me to those who want to go climbing or just have a good time.
S.O.S. - Snowboard Outreach Society This program was held up at Sunlight it was for anybody who wanted to either learn to snowboard or just have a good time for a week. There was an instructor for each group of people all doing different things based on their ability to board. For the first couple days the group i was in focused on being able to stand on the board and the proper way to get off the lift. After we had that down they took us up to the middle of the mountain to test our new skills. I picked up on everything relatively quickly. At the end of each day we would get everybody together and go over the events of the day and there were words that each day focused around I don't exactly remember what they were for it was a few years ago
